This Friday marks the opening of the 12th edition of the Begur International Comedy Film Festival on the Costa Brava, kicking off with ‘Tiempos de ilusión’ by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, France’s most popular directing duo since they made ‘Intouchables’. Until its closing on October 12, a program of films, feature films, documentaries, short films, and activities dedicated entirely to the comedy genre and the friendly side of this beautiful Costa Brava town is offered. Its star attraction this Saturday is the premiere of ‘Arriba Tutto’, José Mota’s feature directorial debut, starring himself and Karra Elejalde, which will be released in the very near future.

Other titles making up its official section include ‘Toujours possible’ by Jacques Ouaniche; ‘Moscas’ by Mexican filmmaker Fernando Eimbecke; ‘Manual para superhéroes: la máscara roja’ by Norwegians Anoo Bhagavan and Patrick Forsberg; ‘Avignon’ by Johann Dionnet; and ‘Virginia Woolf night and day’ by Tina Gharavi. Other special sessions will feature titles such as ‘Absolute Beginners’ by Julien Temple, ‘La fuga’ by Tuti Fernández, or Lubitsch’s classic ‘To be or not to be’, alongside a morning cycle of children’s films.

Among several tributes and awards presented throughout this edition are the Industry Award, to be accepted by Adolfo Blanco, producer, distributor, and founder and president of A Contracorriente Films, and the Critics’ Award, to be received by Carlos Boyero, the most influential and also controversial figure in the Spanish film criticism scene.

Additionally, the festival’s parallel spaces will host the photographic exhibition Las mil caras de Peter Sellers, alongside film and literary discussions and musical sessions.
